Cook Islands top 10 things to see & do

Cook Islands lie in the center of the Polynesia triangle. Rarotonga is the most populous island of the Cook Islands. You will be rewarded with natural beauty and colorful experiences! The surrounding barrier reef protects the lagoons and beaches for safe and beautiful swimming and snorkeling.

1. Aitutaki Lagoon - The world's most beautiful lagoon with its clearly blue waters and unforgettable snorkeling!
Best place to start your stay: goo.gl/DbH1kg

2. One foot Island - This is the highlight of the pristine natural beauty of the lagoon. Here you can get your passport stamped at the most isolated post office in the world!
Best stay: goo.gl/xZ7rE7

3. Hiking Te Rua Manga The Needle - Part of the Cross Island track, the views from this mountain are superb. Recommended stay: goo.gl/aZRp0l

4. Snorkeling Muri Lagoon - One of the iconic places on Rarotonga where you can enjoy the views of many tropical fishes in their natural habitat. Fabulous beach house to stayl: goo.gl/gJ8OFg

5. Black Rock Beach - The spectacular black volcanic rocks are surrounded by amazingly white sand, making this a perfect spot for a day at the beach. This place is traditionally believed to be the place where the souls of the dead people commenced their trip to the afterworld. You can stay at this villa: goo.gl/0EuBwi

6. Arorangi Cook Island Christian Church (CICC) - The cultural experience of the Cook Islands won't be complete without attending a church service with gorgeous songs. Stay close at: goo.gl/qlWLRT

9. Highland Paradise (guilty rocks) - Cook Island cultural center, where you can learn about the Cook Island Maori culture and history. The guilty rocks are particularly interesting, as those who committed adultery where forced to carry the very large and heavy stones a certain distance.

10. sunset at Titikaveka Beach - During the day a great spot for snorkeling, and in the evening one of the best places to watch the often spectacular sunset!

The Cook Islands: Culture and History [HiRes]

At the core of Cook Islands culture and history are the incredible feats of navigation and exploration that brought our people to these distant places, over the vastness of the Southern Pacific.

The insight, perseverance, skill and nerve that made these journeys possible are exceeded only by the love of family and of life that bonded these ancient mariners.

Man's flight to the moon pales in complexity and risk beside their feats of navigation and discovery.

From the time before these exploits down to the present day, the combination of attributes that made them possible inform and enrich life in The Cook Islands.

Come and let them enrich yours.

Paradise Unearthed: Discovering the Untouched Splendor of the Cook Islands

Everything That You Should Know About The Cook Islands is an inviting video that transports you to a tropical paradise, nestled in the heart of the Pacific. Join Pietro and Eltje as they guide you through the enchanting Cook Islands, a mere four-hour flight northeast of New Zealand, where time seems to stand still and the beauty of nature is in its purest form.

The Cook Islands are not just a destination; they are an experience. The islands are known for their friendly and hospitable inhabitants who embody the true spirit of 'Mana,' making every visitor feel like part of their extended family.

Tourism centred around the bustling Rarotonga and the tranquil Aitutaki, forms the backbone of the country’s economy. However, it's the less-travelled outer islands that hold the real treasure - unspoiled beauty and freedom for exploration that's rare in today’s world.

Arriving in Rarotonga is like stepping into a different era. The main town, with just a handful of shops, offers the essentials, transporting visitors back to simpler times. Travelers are advised to bring any specific necessities, as the local offerings focus primarily on foods and drinks.

The true magic, however, lies in the outer islands. Here, you will encounter landscapes untouched by time, communities living in harmony with nature, and opportunities for genuine adventure. Whether it's the pristine beaches, the rich culture, or the vibrant marine life, the Cook Islands offer an escape into a world of unparalleled beauty and tranquillity.

It’s SO GOOD to be back on that travel buzz and visiting the Cook Islands again. We’ve got a total of 7 travel vlogs in this series exploring Aitutaki and Rarotonga, a stunning paradise so close to home! After a quick 45 minute flight from Rarotonga to Aitutaki airport we were picked up by our accommodation and taken to our resort — Etu Moana — right on the beach front!

There’s a lot less hotel and accommodation options on Aitutaki, but we loved the look of Etu Moana and it turned out to be everything we hoped it would be. Check out Etu Moana here: [

In this vlog we also travel a few km’s down the road to Pacific Resort Aitutaki to check out their resort for a massage and some food — what a beautiful spot!

This Cook Island series is just getting started, so stick around for more to come soon!

We were hosted by Cook Islands Tourism to assist in making this travel series in Aitutaki and Rarotonga, but as always we have full editorial control over what we film, what we say, and how we share the experience with you in these vlogs. 7 Nights on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands – flying on Jetstar’s inaugural flight. July 2023

7 Nights on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands – flying on Jetstar’s inaugural flight and staying in a local Airbnb. July 2023

Left Sydney at 9:30pm and arrived at 7:00am the same day. Crossing the International Date Line can mess with your head for a minute. Flight time was less than 6 hours going to Rarotonga and closer to 7 hours coming back. Brilliant place for a quick getaway.

We stayed at a fairly basic Airbnb but the location (Southern part of island) was amazing. Walk out of our apartment and you are on the beautiful beach with snorkelling right out the front. This area was very quiet and perfect for us. 7 nights of lazy beach days, reading and walking, hanging with the island dogs and not much else.

We caught the local buses (the clockwise and anti-clockwise bus) for the first few days, which was a great way to orient ourselves. Hiring a motorbike for a few days was the best way to get around and Neil’s motorbike licence process was all part of the Raro experience. We were able to lap the island a few times (32kms), visit the Muri night markets for dinner, Punanga markets, visit the yacht club for a cocktail (sounds fancy but isn’t) and drive the backstreets of Rarotonga to get a feel for local life.

We give Rarotonga 4.5 stars.
