Tourist Visa Information :
A visa is required by any foreigner whose country is not member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

Your visa is valid for a maximum stay of three months (90 days). It may be extended, but this must be arranged in the country by contacting the General Office of the National Police in Ouagadougou. The Embassy does not issue a long-stay visa.

Visas are available at the airport and borders for some nationalities. The price of the visa will be double what you would pay at an embassy. Trying to board a flight without a visa may be a problem.

Carefully complete the application forms. If any information is missing, it will be necessary for the Embassy to return the forms, delaying your visa.

Palm Beach Hotel, The Gambia, January 2016

Facebook Gambia Tourism Group:

The camera I used picked up the slightest bit of wind. It was nowhere near as windy as it sounds in the video. Around 30 minutes into the video, things get more interesting, as I go away from the coast and visit a couple of compounds and see how urban Gambians live. I say some stupid things, but this is largely to put some people who are a little shy at ease and take the pressure off them, when they are on camera. I try and 'dig myself out of a hole' around 42 minutes into the video, I felt bad, and MarieAnne teasingly slapped me haha. Visit Tijan's Tours: My Facebook Gambia group is here:

The Gambia, also known as the Smiling Coast of West Africa, is my favourite holiday destination. As usual, and as predicted, I had a nice time, the weather was hot and between averaged between 35 and 38 degrees during the mid afternoon in the two weeks I spent there. The lowest temperature I recorded was 22.6 degrees at 5am, and the hottest was 41 degrees very briefly at 1.38pm. Humidity during the day is less than 20% so heat doesn't feel any worse than a hot UK summers day. I stayed between the 27th of January to the 10th of February. Two weeks should be a bare minimum, there's so much to see and experience, and you never get bored of all the activity going on. When you arrive back in the UK, everything seems so dull, grey and cold. I went with four other friends, two of which stayed in Lemon Creek Hotel, hence my few visits there in the video. I stayed at Palm Beach Hotel in Kotu, around £300 for two weeks through Booking.com. The Gambia is a former British Colony, and as a result, English is the official language, although locals may speak to eachother in local languages such as Wolof, Mandinka, Fula and Jola. The people of The Gambia are friendly and laid back, Muslims and Christians live in harmony, and violent crime is low. This may come as a surprise to many, as Africa has unfairly been stereotyped as a violent continent, but this isn't the case for the majority of it, especially Sub-Saharan Africa, which The Gambia is part of. I feel safer walking around The Gambia day and night than I do in the UK. The biggest hazards are Malaria and road traffic accidents. As you will see in the video, driving in The Gambia is not the same as the UK. Sunscreen, insect repellent with DEET and antimalarials are important, especially if you went during the rainy season.

The Gambia is a developing country, and more than 20% of it's economy is based on tourism. It's main export are peanuts. This season has massively recovered from last year, when the fear of Ebola put many off going, despite there not being a single case in the country. The beaches were busy, without being overcrowded like the ones in Spain etc. They also don't have huge Skyscraper hotels ruining the coast line like most European holiday destinations. Hotels in The Gambia can only be maximum of three stories high, and all the coast is palm tree lined, and the majority of the hotels are located there. The main tourist areas are Cape Point in Bakau, Fajara, Kotu, Kololi, Bijilo and Brufut. These areas come under the Tourism Development Area. In the tourist areas, you will see red and green monkeys, crocodiles, parrots, lizards, and further inland, Chimpanzees, Baboons, Hippos and the odd Hyena.

There are many different restaurants and hotels that can cater for varying tastes. Upmarket restaurants like Calypso and Scala are popular, and the posh hotels like Ngala Lodge, Mandina lodges, Leo's Boutique and Coco Ocean are very swanky indeed. I prefer rough and ready so I stay at Palm Beach Hotel, which is only a 2 star hotel, but I don't care, as I have stayed in worse places in the UK. If you are thinking of visiting this colourful, friendly, English speaking country and need to ask some questions, just pop over to the Gambia Forum on Trip Advisor (Google it) and someone will be along to help. Many expats live in The Gambia and there are many people who return over and over again who can help you. Hope you enjoy the video. I've never been one for making videos, but I try my best when I am in Gambia, so people in the UK can see it and hopefully want to visit it, its so much more exciting and enjoyable than anywhere else people go in Europe.

Top 10 Largest Cities or Towns of The Gambia

Thanks for watching....
The Gambia (Listeni/ˈɡæmbiə/; officially the Republic of the Gambia and often called simply Gambia) is a country in West Africa. It is surrounded by Senegal, apart from a short strip of Atlantic coastline at its western end. It is the smallest country on mainland Africa.

The country is situated on either side of the Gambia River, the nation's namesake, which flows through the country's centre and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Its area is 10,689 square kilometres (4,127 sq mi) with a population of 1,882,450 at the 15 April 2013 Census (provisional). Banjul is the Gambian capital, but the largest cities are Serekunda and Brikama.

The Gambia shares historical roots with many other West African nations in the slave trade, which was the key factor in the placing and keeping of a colony on the Gambia River, first by the Portuguese, during which era it was La Gambia, and later by the British. On 18 February 1965, The Gambia gained independence from the United Kingdom and joined the Commonwealth of Nations as Republic of the Gambia. It withdrew from the British Commonwealth in October 2013. Since gaining independence, Gambia has enjoyed relative political stability, with the exception of a brief period of military rule in 1994.

Due to the fertile land of the country, the economy is dominated by farming, fishing, and tourism. About a third of the population lives below the international poverty line of US$1.25 a day.

Arab traders provided the first written accounts of the Gambia area in the ninth and tenth centuries. During the tenth century, Muslim merchants and scholars established communities in several West African commercial centres. Both groups established trans-Saharan trade routes, leading to a large trade in slaves, gold, ivory (exports) and manufactured goods (imports).

By the eleventh or twelfth century, the rulers of kingdoms such as Takrur (a monarchy centred on the Senegal River just to the north), ancient Ghana and Gao, had converted to Islam and had appointed Muslims who were literate in the Arabic language as courtiers. At the beginning of the fourteenth century, most of what is today called Gambia was part of the Mali Empire. The Portuguese reached this area by sea in the mid-fifteenth century, and they began to dominate overseas trade.

In 1588, the claimant to the Portuguese throne, António, Prior of Crato, sold exclusive trade rights on the Gambia River to English merchants. Letters patent from Queen Elizabeth I confirmed the grant. In 1618, King James I of England granted a charter to an English company for trade with the Gambia and the Gold Coast (now Ghana). Between 1651 and 1661 some parts of the Gambia were under Courland's rule, and had been bought by Prince Jacob Kettler, who was a Polish-Lithuanian vassal.

During the late 17th century and throughout the 18th century, the British Empire and the French Empire struggled continually for political and commercial supremacy in the regions of the Senegal River and the Gambia River. The British Empire occupied the Gambia when an expedition led by Augustus Keppel landed there—following the Capture of Senegal in 1758. The 1783 First Treaty of Versailles gave Great Britain possession of the Gambia River, but the French retained a tiny enclave at Albreda on the river's north bank. This was finally ceded to the United Kingdom in 1856.

As many as three million slaves may have been taken from this general region during the three centuries that the transatlantic slave trade operated. It is not known how many slaves were taken by inter-tribal wars or Muslim traders before the transatlantic slave trade began. Most of those taken were sold by other Africans to Europeans; others were prisoners of inter-tribal wars; some were victims sold because of unpaid debts; and others were simply victims of kidnapping.

Traders initially sent slaves to Europe to work as servants until the market for labour expanded in the West Indies and North America in the eighteenth century. In 1807, the United Kingdom abolished the slave trade throughout its empire. It also tried, unsuccessfully, to end the slave trade in the Gambia. Slave ships intercepted by the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron in the Atlantic were also returned to the Gambia, with liberated slaves released on MacCarthy Island far up the Gambia River where they were expected to establish new lives. The British established the military post of Bathurst (now Banjul) in 1816. In the ensuing years, Banjul was at times under the jurisdiction of the British Governor General in Sierra Leone. In 1888, the Gambia became a separate colony.

10 Best Destinations to Visit in Djibouti

Though it occupies a tiny corner in Northern Africa, Djibouti has copious amounts of beauty and sites that you really can’t believe unless you’ve seen them for yourself. Few places have such a variety of landscapes – like volcanoes, sinking plains, limestone chimneys with steam coming from the top, salt lakes, grand canyons, and gorgeous plateaus.
For those that love outdoor adventure, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy here. Enjoy snorkelling with the sharks, diving, kite surfing, and hiking. The country isn’t overly developed outside of the capital so spending time here makes for the perfect eco-travel experience as you get a peek of ancient nomadic life.

Chengdu Tekst

When entering Chengdu you’ll probably notice the high buildings, foggy weather and lots of traffic. With over 10 million people in the region, the capitol of Sichuan is definitely a big city!

The most famous attraction being the Panda Breeding Center. And yes, you’ll definitely notice they are proud of their furry friends.

Heming teahouse in People’s park is very popular. A great place to put your feet up after a stroll through the park!

FACE CHANGING

They say ancient people used to paint their faces to scare off the wild animals. The Sichuan Opera adopted this skill, and formed it into the art we now know as face changing.
Actors reveal mask after mask in a way that bewilders the audience.

And there is more! Shadow plays, singing and fun little sketches. Even as an English speaking tourist, you’ll be entertained through the entire evening.

You can even feel the vibes of being an actor yourself for a few moments!

FOOD

Being a UNESCO renowned centre of gastronomy, enjoying the local cuisines is a must do. Mixtures of sweet, sour, salty and spices guarantee an explosion in your mouth. At least the Sichuan pepper will ;)

Don’t miss out on the hot pot in the streets, where you create your sauce exactly the way you like it, with a variety of fish, meat and vegetables.

Or go for a cooking course in a local home. A great way to catch a glimpse of daily life.

NEW CENTURY GLOBAL CENTER

With some of the largest cities in the world, you know China is not afraid to think big.
So, meet the world’s largest building, the New Century Global Center.

There are hotels in here, offices, even a university. But what you will find probably most interesting is the huge shopping mall that’s hidden behind the high walls. With options good options for entertainment, and shopping your ass of at any budget.
There are lot of funky foods to enjoy.

And if you want to cool down, just enter the tropical swimming area at the end of the building. Just because, why not?

TEA AND SPICES MARKETS

A totally different side of Chengdu is to be found at the local markets. We’re off to the tea market just above the northern railway station.

Of course you’ll find tea in here. Lots of it! For daily use, and for real fancy occasions.

And as a bonus, there is a spice market right across the street. With more taste explosions than you could possibly eat in a lifetime.
And best of all: we had so much fun with the people here. Even when you have to talk with hands and feet, a good laugh is understood by anyone.

And no worries when it starts to rain! Just join in on a local game of MahJong.

All in all this is a great place for some edible souvenir shopping just before going home.
And did I already tell you you can find all directions in the descriptionbox?!

GET LOST

Oh well, it’s a fun way to meet new people!

TIBETAN QUARTER

You could say this city does some face changing itself! In the Tibetan Quarter you’ll get yet a totally different feel from this city. Native style houses, small streets, lots of green and of course, lots of shopping.
You’ll definitely find the best souvenirs in here. But there is also the green surroundings and temples that are very attractive.
Selfie Time!
