Kazakhstan felt like a surprise gift to me! We went without any expectations to Almaty, the areas close by and were absolutely blown away by both modernization and its landscapes.

Kazakhstan is a fascinating country and one that is not often visited by tourists.
Despite the freezing cold weather of -18C (-1F) when I visited, I managed to have a great time in the capital of Astana, and I was shocked to see how modern it is. It is Kazakhstan's newly designated capital (1998) which moved from Almaty, and over the last 20 years, it has rapidly developed from basically nothing into an international hub with many skyscrapers and futuristic buildings.

What Kazakhstan is REALLY Like | Almaty Travel Vlog
After heading out to see the barren deserts, sand dunes, Mosques and more - our travels through the Almaty region in Kazakhstan continues.
And like that a day later we leave flat lands to go and explore beautiful mountains and lakes covered in pine trees - this country is honestly so diverse.
First stop we headed out to Moon Canyon which is known as the Grand Canyon of Central Asia. After lunch at a locals house in Saty we started our journey out to see the lakes...but not using any car - an old Soviet style jeep.
We were blown away at the beauty of Kaindy Lake and its interesting story of having petrified dead trees in it's turquoise waters.
Our final stop for the day was Kolsai lakes to make camp for a couple of nights.

2- if you hate snow, then just forget about Kazakhstan.
3- if you find mountains and lakes boring, you should strike Kazakhstan out of your bucket list.
