10 Things NOT To Do in Bolivia - Part 1

Get more Tips here!

As the most elevated country in the continent, Bolivia offers travelers the most amazing panoramic views from its highest peaks. Definitely DO that. But right now we'll be taking a look at 10 things you should NOT do in Bolivia.

1. Don't Travel Without Toilet Paper
It doesn't matter if you're in a decent hotel, or a fine restaurant. You'll soon realize that toilet paper is a hot commodity in most cities. Also make sure you don't flush the paper, it should always be tossed in the trashcan instead.

2. Don't Enter a Bus Without Saying Hello
The locals will always enter by greeting the rest of the passengers buenos dias” (good day) or “buenas tardes” (good afternoon). Brush up on your Spanish so you can recite the greetings, as well!

3. Don't Explore Without a Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle
When you head outside of the major cities, it's best to travel in a four-wheel drive vehicle. You'll be faced with many sub-par roads, including hazardous highways without shoulders, lack of fencing and barriers.

4. Don't Carry Large Notes
We usually say this so that you don't become the target of a crime. However, in Bolivia, the reason is that a lot of the vendors don't carry change. So if a taxi ride costs you 10 Bs and you hand the driver a 20, good luck getting any change back.

5. Don't Get in a Taxi With No Signage
According to travel advisories, (DOS) crimes that take place in taxi cabs are a huge problem in Bolivia. Many criminals drive around in cars that look like taxis, and once a tourist enters the vehicle, they're mugged of their money and belongings. Take a radio taxi and make sure the vehicle has clear signage with the business name, address, and telephone number on the roof.

10 Things Not to Do in South Africa

Get more Tips here!

South Africa is a country that promises to be as wonderful as it is mysterious... An all-round adventure. But if you want to enjoy your trip without any unexpected mishaps, here's 10 things not to do on your visit!

1) Don't pronounce Zebra wrong!
This is something every tourist does wrong when they go to Africa. It’s not pronounced “Zee-bra”, it’s Zeh-bra and locals can get annoyed when people pronounce it wrong!

2) Don't expect to see it all in one trip
South Africa is a huge country, so don't expect to say you've seen everything in just one trip. Plan in advance, especially if you’re planning a road trip and assume you'll have to come back again to see it all...

3) Don't expect to be surrounded by wildlife
Don’t get us wrong, South Africa has some of the most amazing wildlife on the planet, but don’t expect to see lions roaming city streets. If you want to see the big 5 (that’s Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and Buffalos), your best option is to go to a National Park.

4) Don't forget to tip
In South Africa it’s normal to tip at least 10% of your bill in restaurants, cafes, and even bars. It’s also polite to tip for services such as having your hair washed at a salon. So remember to take that into account.

5) Don't flash expensive belongings
We all know you have the latest iPhone and handfulls of bling but don’t flash them around or you’ll attract the wrong kind of attention. Also, If you rent a car, double-check that it’s locked and don’t leave valuables on the seats for everyone to see. You have been warned!

6) Don't feed or touch the animals
The animals you’ll see are wild so it's not a good idea trying to feed them or touch them, they're not pets. Even if you think they're very cute, keep your distance.

7) Don't forget to refuel
South Africa is a big country and the gas stations are few and far between. It’s a good idea to fuel up at every opportunity as you don’t know far the next station will be. Also petrol attendants will do everything from washing your windshield, checking your tyre pressure and helping with directions, especially if they see your a tourist. So remember to reciprocate with a nice tip.

8) Don't be impatient
Here the abstract concept of time, is... well... an abstract concept. They are relaxed about everything, especially punctuality, so try to hold on your nerves and relax with them to enjoy the trip.

9) Don't forget the sun
Even for South Africans, the sun and intense heat is very hard to get used to. So don't forget to bring your sunscreen and hats. Seriously. Without them you won't enjoy your holiday at all.

10) Don't stay only in tourist areas
The big cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg are definitely a must see. But there are lots of beautiful places quite far away, that will amaze you too. So try to plan some extra routes and see more cities. Or to really make sure you don’t miss anything, start planning your second visit now!

5 Things NOT To Do in Guatemala

Get more Tips here!
With its lush landscapes, Mayan ruins, and towering volcanoes, there aren't too many things not to love about Guatemala. But like most countries, there are some Things NOT To Do in Guatemala.

1. Don't Visit Guatemala City
According to the U.S. Department of State's travel notice, the city is rife with violent crimes against U.S. citizens and foreign travelers. The capital was once considered safe, but those days are long gone.

2. Don't Wear Flip Flops to the Mayan Ruins
Unless you want to lose your footing and sprain an ankle, leave the flip flops in your suitcase. The ancient Mayan Ruins are over a thousand years old, staircases may be unstable, and grassy areas uneven. So watch your step!

3. Don't Have Your Heart Set on Delicious Coffee
Guatemala may be known for producing some of the best brews you'll ever taste. Sadly, most of the coffee is exported, which means you won't be sipping a cup of Guatemalan joe during your stay.

4. Don't Travel at Night
It's a necessary precaution when traveling, especially in Guatemala. When night falls, the chances of becoming a victim of a crime are far greater.

5. Don't Take Photos of the Locals Without Permission
There are unsubstantiated rumors in Mayan communities that foreigners have the intent to steal their children and sell them abroad. A Japanese tourist was tragically killed by an angry mob of 500 villagers after he took pictures of indigenous women and children in a market.

Avoid this tourist SCAM in Colombo, Sri Lanka. ????????

When travelling in Sri Lanka as a foreigner you'll no doubt be approached by men who try to appear as friendly citizens. They will attempt to coax you to somewhere, such as a beautiful temple that you must go and see. Watch as this man follows me through the streets, desperately trying to convince me to go see the (fake) Tsunami Temple, despite me showing zero interest in it.

These scammers and their cheap tricks are not representative of the genuine good people of Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, as foreigner, they will be seeking you out so it would be easy to think that every local is bad when in fact it's a very small number of bad people.

La Paz, Bolivia – history, travel guide and things to do

La Paz is the seat of Bolivian government. The main points of interest are The Government Palace of Bolivia (Palacio Quemado), San Jorge district, Estadio Hernando Siles, Tiwanaku Square, Mercado de Brujas, Plaza Murillo, Calle Jaén, and Parque Urbano Central. The most important churches are the Metropolitan Cathedral and San Francisco Church.

You will see traffic zebras (cebrita) - a team of young people who dress in full-body zebra costumes with the goal of helping people to cross the busy streets of La Paz. A system of urban transit aerial cable cars called Mi Teleférico (My Cable Car) was opened in 2014, connecting La Paz and El Alto. The most interesting museums in La Paz are the National Museum of Archaeology, Museo de la Coca, and Museo de Textiles Andinos Bolivianos.

HELLO FROM COUNTRY #172 - ERITREA!

I'm thrilled to be back in Africa where I will spend the remaining 3 months of the year! Many of you probably haven’t heard of Eritrea before and that’s because it’s a relatively new country and it’s notoriously difficult to enter (top 5 in the world). After 48 hours of roaming around the capital of Asmara and the ancient port city of Massawa, I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

I’m getting flashbacks to when I was in Ethiopia, yet also touches of Yemen Somaliland and Italy. Yes - ITALY! Eritrea is a former Italian colony and their influence is remarkably well-preserved in the form of giant cathedrals, pizza parlors, gelato shops, old Italian cars, appertivos and many people can still speak fluent Italiano.

The capital of Asmara is VERY safe, with kind-hearted people and surprisingly the weather is cold here (2,400 meters high). Unfortunately due to WiFi issues, I haven't been able to upload anything until now, but there’s no hurry because life is wonderful here! More to come soon ????????

10 Amazing Travel Experiences You Have to Do Before You Die

Get more Tips here!

The world is magical, fascinating, mysterious, and beautiful. Here are some amazing international destinations that you absolutely need to see before you’re too old to travel.

1. See a Polar Bear in Spitsbergen, Norway
In most cases, you’d have to go to a Pole to find a polar bear to gawk at — unless you make a trip to Spitsbergen, Norway, where there are actually more polar bears than people (which pretty much guarantees a sighting).

2. Get Up Close and Personal at the Great Barrier Reef
Hundreds of species of fish and colorful coral mingle on Australia’s most famous natural wonder. Here’s one you might want to book while you can, as climate change is having a harsh impact on this massive natural wonder.

3. Visit the Galápagos Islands
The Galápagos Islands are worth a visit even if you’re not a biologist because the remote island chain is home to dozens of species that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. It’s like walking through the world’s most unique zoo.

4. Dive With Blue Whales in Sri Lanka
Why wast your money diving with boring old sharks when you could share the water with the heaviest creatures ever born on the planet Earth. At Weligama Bay, a budding tourism industry takes ambitious divers on a trip to get up close and personal with these ancient leviathans.

5. Explore the Nooks and Crannies of Venice, Italy
Take the time to strap on your walking shoes and wander, because this city is gorgeous from top to bottom. When you want to get back on the beaten path, simply pick up a water taxi.

6. Participate in Thailand’s Yi Peng Festival
The Festival is marked by parades and shows of all kinds, but the centerpiece is the ritual in which thousands of people release glowing lanterns into the sky in a nighttime ceremony that needs to be seen to be beleived. Though foreigners can’t participate until a week after the official ceremony, both experiences are magical.

7. Find the Time to See Iguaçu Falls
Sure, Niagara gets all the publicity, but it’s a stagnant puddle compared to the powerful Iguaçu Falls in Ecuador, one of the widest waterfalls in the world. More than 250 cascades are spread across a two-mile stretch of hike-able land that you should absolutely take the time to experience.

8. Travel Across the Salt Flats of Bolivia … Twice
You’ll never truly understand the vast expanses of the planet Earth until you find yourself surrounded by the seemingly endless salt flats of Bolivia. At various points of the year, the terrain is wildly different. In the dry season, the flat plain is a hexagonal wonderland, while the wet season submerges the flats in shallow water and casts a mirror image onto the sky.

9. Get Lost in Kathmandu
Obviously, keep safety in mind when you’re traveling through the beautiful country of Nepal. That being said, using caution doesn’t mean you should avoid the capital city’s back alleys, where dogs run back and forth and locals have adorned the narrow streets with beautiful flowers.

10. Blow Some Money in Monte Carlo
Experience the height of decadence in Monte Carlo, where some of the swankiest hotels and casinos suck in travelers from around the world. Also, the beautiful beaches are still very inviting and the quaint city streets are a delight to walk through.

Which one of these you won't miss?
